Article in specialist magazine: Standard Operating Procedures – the industry’s problem child
The problem is well known within the pharmaceutical industry: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are difficult to understand. Often they are written by natural scientists or engineers who focus mainly on the industry-specific content and not so much on the comprehensibility and the implementation of the SOP. Incomprehensible or even unclear SOP’s are causing resentment, increasing training costs and may harm the quality of a process. To assure SOPs are fulfilling their tasks, it is important to consider certain basic rules and tips while drafting them.
