Crisis Communications

Crises present organizations with challenges far beyond the everyday norm. Decisions must be made based on shaky data. Weaknesses are mercilessly exposed, inciting a media feeding frenzy. Communication should be considered a top priority in a crisis situation.

Objectives:

  • Understanding the fundamentals of crisis communications
  • Understanding the communication needs and working methods of the media
  • Familiarity with interactions with one's own spokespeople (role assignments, accountability) and correct conduct vis-à-vis media producers
  • Knowing the major dos and don'ts of crisis communications in order to respond appropriately in an emergency

Method:

  • Participants practice and critique different (crisis) communication situations under pressure in a spirit of self-criticism. These include an interview with a short briefing, a statement at a press conference, a brief statement for TV and an aggressive TV interview.
  • A refresher course complements the introductory course after a period of one to two years.

Language:
German, English and French

Trainer:
Dr. Marcel Trachsel, Managing Partner, int/ext Communications AG, Basel
Martin Huschke, Partner, int/ext Communications AG, Basel
